Rachel Whitehead

Self build by Rachel Whitehead with support from Amazon Nails. First 2-storey loadbearing building in the UK, full planning and Building Regulation approval. Many volunteers have helped to shape this house, which has evolved as it grew. Thatched eyebrow added on SW face to give extra protection against wet weather.

Konstruktion
2-storey hybrid: part loadbearing straw , part timber and glass. I beam floors and rafters, cedar shingle roof. Lime render and clay plaster.

Fundament
concrete block below ground, reclaimed stone and lime mortar above ground with larch baseplate below straw.

Isolering
Straw, leca (blown clay), and thermafleece -sheeps wool insulation
