Politiken apology ignored
01. mar. 2010 15.41 EnglishEditor-in-chief of daily newspaper Politiken, Tøger Seidenfaden, only knows the name of one of the eight Islamic organizations he has apologized to, and that organization makes no mention of the settlement on its web site, writes daily newspaper B.T.
The Organization of Descendants of Muhammad in Egypt, Niqabat al-Ashrafs, is the largest of the eight organizations, and it completely ignores Politiken's apology for affronting the Prophet by reprinting a controversial cartoon.
Not a word of mention
Friday, the newspaper made a big deal of the story, and editor-in-chief Tøger Seidenfaden sent out press releases both in Danish and in English.
Frederiksberg councilman Ali Maktabi (Socialdemokratiet) has gone over the Niqabat al-Ashraf web site on behalf of B.T., and although it had been updated on Sunday, there was no mention of the Politiken settlement.
Wanted to go over web sites
Arabic television network Al-Jazeera was quick to mention the apology - but omitted to mention that Politiken has reserved the right to reprint the infamous cartoon at any future date.
Yesterday, B.T. wanted to check the web sites of the seven other organizations involved in the settlement to see if they mention it, but Tøger Seidenfaden could not recall their names. Earlier that morning, he had told TV2 News that the organizations were very well-respected.
