Free WiFi on long train rides
03. mar. 2010 13.34 EnglishIf you want to check your emails or surf online via the TDC wireless internet (Wi-Fi) access on the train ride between Jutland and Zealand, it could set you back a pretty penny.
Using the paid Wi-Fi hotspots in DSB's long-distance costs DKK 1 per minute of access.
But now, DSB admits that passengers won't swallow the per-minute rate, and are using mobile broadband instead. Therefore, DSB is now working on being able to offer free internet access, starting some time this spring.
Suburban trains have free internet
- We believed that paid Wi-Fi hotspots were the solution, but as more and more people use mobile broadband, and we see more free Wi-Fi hotspots, this is something that we are now discussing with TDC, head of business development in DSB, Claus Klitholm, tells news agency Newspaq.
Last year, DSB signed an agreement with Gratis Danmark bringing free internet access to Copenhagen suburban trains, and after a number of complaints over the high per-minute rates, DSB has decided to offer the same service on the longer stretches.
Gratis Danmark is also behind the free internet access on trains operated by Arriva. The access is financed through commercials.
