Church council demands gay marriage rights
08. mar. 2010 14.57 EnglishHomosexual couples should have a right to get married in church just the same way that heterosexual couples do, according to a unanimous decision by the Hyltebjerg parochial church council in Copenhagen.
Therefore, the council has now written letters to both the parliamentary committee on ecclesiastical affairs and to the Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs, Birthe Rønn Hornbech, urging them to safeguard equal rights for homosexuals, writes daily newspaper Berlingske Tidende.
- We can no longer accept that politicians are on the fence on this issue, so we have now made them aware of our wishes, says president of the parochial church council, Torben Larsen.
