Researches fear food shortage
09. mar. 2010 13.54 EnglishOver the coming years, the world population is going to grow at a rate where food production will not be able to keep up, Danish and foreign researchers tell daily newspaper Politiken.
Therefore, they are deeply concerned that funding for research in new plant varieties has been cut across the world.
In Europe, widespread scepticism towards genetically modified plants is putting a halt to both private and public research projects.
- Europeans will have to get used to the idea that research is not a part of the problem, but a part of the solution, says professor Per Pinstrup-Andersen from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
