Bishops willing to consider gay marriage
09. mar. 2010 14.51 EnglishSeveral bishops are willing to consider whether same-sex couples should be able to get married in church.
- It is my assessment that a political majority would be in favour of this, and the church will have to be a church in such a situation, as well, says Karsten Nissen, bishop in Viborg diocese.
He is opposed to same-sex marriage in churches, but encourages Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs Birthe Rønn Hornbech to establish a fast-working committee to prepare a proposal for the politicians.
Bishop in Århus diocese, Keld Holm, supports same-sex marriage in churches, but proposes that it be left up to the individual priests whether they want to perform the marriages or not.
