Bishops in favour of same-sex marriage
10. mar. 2010 10.34 EnglishSame-sex marriages in Danish churches looks like it is going to happen.
Six of the ten Danish bishops support homosexuals in their desire to be able to wed just like heterosexuals, according to telephone inquiries by daily newspaper Berlingske Tidende.
One of the most vocal proponents of same-sex marriages is bishop of Copenhagen Diocese, Peter Skov Jacobsen.
- What interests Our Lord is whether people love each other, and these people should be able to express that love, he says.
The bishop of Ribe Diocese, Elisabeth Dons Christensen, agrees:
- I am in favour of the marriages if a law granting equal status to marriage and civil unions is passed, she says.
The two bishops form a majority in favour of same-sex marriages in the Danish National Church along with the bishops from the Funen, Århus, Aalborg, and Roskilde dioceses, writes Berlingske Tidende.
