Swedish Muhammad cartoon reprinted

A number of Swedish newspapers have elected to publish artist Lars Vilks' controversial cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad with the body of a fighting dog.

The publication comes after it was revealed that there were plans afoot to assassinate the Swedish cartoonist.

The cartoon was originally published in the newspaper Nerikes Allehanda in the fall of 2007. It led to protests from a number of countries, and the cartoonist became the victim of various threats.

Aftonbladet, who published the cartoon on one of the newspaper's cultural pages in 2007, has chosen not to republish it.
