50 % support mandatory bike helmets

02. sep. 2010 15.49 English

50 percent of the population supports making the use of bicycle helmets mandatory although only 16 percent of cyclists actually wear helmets, according to a new study by insurance company Codan.

The Codan study shows that parents are more likely to wear bicycle helmets in order to provide their children with a good example.

In 2009, 25 cyclists were killed in traffic, and 494 were severely injured, according to numbers from the Danish Road Directorate.

In Sweden, it is mandatory for children under the age of 15 to wear helmets when cycling.
