SAS: New redundancies in Denmark

28. jan. 2013 12.39 English

An additional 200 administrative employees at SAS in Scandinavia will be made redundant as part of the company's comprehensive savings plan.

"We will not put a number on the redundancies in Denmark, but we have announced that the total will be around 200 people in Sweden, Norway and Denmark combined," said SAS press officer Trine Kromann-Mikkelsen.

The company originally presented a plan to cut 800 positions in its administration, but the recent announcement increases the total to 1,000 employees.

Saving plan: Cutting staff to minimum in Denmark
The new announcement comes as a result of the newly established organisation at SAS.
"The right people had to be in the right positions to make the decisions," said Kromann-Mikkelsen.

Company management will not put a number on how many positions will be eliminated in each country. However, according to the saving plan announced last November, the administration will be consolidated in Sweden and cut to a minimum in Norway and Denmark.

SAS: We must be profitable
The latest redundancies provide no guarantee that SAS employees can breathe a sigh of relief. More cuts may be carried out as a part of the saving plan.

"We cannot guarantee that the SAS organisation will not change in the future. We must be profitable," said Kromann-Mikkelsen.

The plans for more redundancies than originally announced in the SAS rescue plan were presented to SAS management and union representatives on Thursday, but first reported by the Norwegian newspaper Dagens Næringsliv on Saturday.

"Clearly, the meetings we have been holding with the trade unions recently have involved very serious and not particularly positive issues on the agenda, due to the current restructuring process," said Kromann-Mikkelsen.
