Death-sentenced dog now missing
31. jan. 2013 13.40 EnglishJette Andersen, the owner of Thor, a German Shepherd dog who was due to be destroyed but is now missing, believes the Danish Dog Act is all wrong.
“This has been awful. No one can believe this is happening and that the Dog Act is working like this,” said Andersen on DR’s Aftenshowet programme.
In November, Thor was taken by police and placed in an animal shelter under the provisions of the Dog Act relating to savage attacks.
Thought case was closed
During a walk in September, Thor had bitten another dog, but Andersen believed the case was closed after paying a fine. She was therefore extremely surprised when the police took Thor and wanted to destroy him because she did not believe the incident constituted a “savage attack”.
“In that case, both dogs should be destroyed. But what sort of nonsense is it to destroy a dog that stops fighting of its own accord when it’s called,” she said.
Thor’s whereabouts unknown
Thor was due to be destroyed today, but yesterday he was taken by a person purporting to be a police officer.
“It’s completely grotesque. I don’t know where he is,” said Andersen on finding out that her dog was missing.
