Danish exports to US on the rise
04. feb. 2013 13.17 EnglishDanish exports to the US, including service exports, increased significantly last year, with the final tally for 2012 expected to exceed DKK 100 billion, according to Minister for Trade and Investment, Pia Olsen Dyhr (SPP).
Exports of goods alone in 2012 are believed to have grown by 25 percent compared to the year before. This is equal to about DKK 9 billion, or about 6,000 jobs in Denmark.
Pia Olsen Dyhr, who sets off Monday on a trip to the US, says that there are still untapped opportunities for Danish companies in the US market.
“In addition to green technology, there are excellent opportunities for Danish companies in health technology, design and innovation,” said Olsen Dyhr in a press release.
Good opportunities for climate adaptation
Olsen Dyhr begins her trip with a visit to New York, where her activities will include a discussion of better climate adaptation in light of the flooding after Hurricane Sandy.
“I am certain that Danish companies have a strong market in the US when it comes to climate adaptation. Cowi, DHI Group, Grundfos and many other companies are already in full swing,” said Olsen Dyhr.
The next stop on her trip will be Silicon Valley in California, where she will meet with Danish entrepreneurs and give a speech at Stanford University. The government has set its sights on Denmark being among the top five OECD countries in terms of the number of innovative companies by 2020.
“A step towards this goal is a closer co-operation with Silicon Valley’s unique environment for entrepreneurs,” said Olsen Dyhr.
