Police seize DKK 17 mill of cannabis
05. feb. 2013 13.09 EnglishJanuary has been particularly rough on drug dealers in Christiania this year, according to the Task Force Pusherstreet division of Copenhagen Police Department. Throughout one month, the police have seized marijuana with a street value of DKK 17 million.
“This is a significant jump in activity compared to our first few months,” said the leader of TFP, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Poul Kjeldsen.
Overall, the task force confiscated 14,879 joints and a total of 132 kilos of marijuana and a further 62 kilos of the ultra-potent skunk cannabis from the Freetown neighbourhood in Copenhagen.
Assuming that both marijuana and the stronger skunk cannabis sells on the street for an average price of DKK 50 per gram and one joint costs DKK 50, the seized goods are worth around DKK 17 million.
Illegal firearms
When Task Force Pusherstreet recently confiscated a number of firecrackers, they found three fireworks rigged as a kind of bomb containing about 400 airsoft pellets.
“Unfortunately, we found loaded firearms and other items that suggest the organised criminals around Pusherstreet aren’t letting go of the lucrative drug trade without a fight,” said Kjeldsen, and continued:
“The situation is unacceptable and deeply troubling, when hardened criminals are stockpiling weapons and other effects which may prove lethal to police officers on the job.”
Beside the drugs found at the scene, police also seized 22 illegal weapons, ranging from bludgeons and knives to five guns, two of which were loaded.
During a narcotics breath control in the Christiania area, police caught 168 people driving under the influence.
