Higher pay negotiated for teachers
08. feb. 2013 13.13 EnglishDanish teachers at upper secondary level are to receive higher wages, but in return the principals will have control of lesson distribution and preparation time, reports DR News.
The Minister for Finance Bjarne Corydon and chief negotiators negotiated for nearly 24 hours the collective agreement on behalf of 180,000 teachers, police officers and other state employees.
Both parties are expected to meet at 9 am today to discuss the financial viability of the proposals and put the final touches on the agreement.
Sources privy to the negotiations estimate that an agreement on wages and calculation of overtime is close at hand and expected to be finalised before noon.
On the delicate matter of teachers’ work hours, both parties are considering a model that entails offering teachers higher wages in return for granting principals more leeway in distributing lessons and preparation time.
