Massive sign-up for sexology studies
12. feb. 2013 13.01 EnglishThe Master’s programme in Sexology is still under development, yet more than 50 people have so far applied for a spot on the waiting list to join classes at Aalborg University this autumn, writes local daily Nordjyske Stifttidende.
“We’ve clearly hit the trend bang on. This type of programme has been requested for some time, but until now, the only alternative has been more or less competent private courses,” Doctor Astrid Højgaard said to the newspaper in reference to the overwhelming interest.
As chief physician at the Sexological Clinic at Aalborg University, Højgaard has been one of the driving forces behind the new programme, which will be the first of its kind at a Danish university.
For now, the programme primarily targets doctors, nurses, physio- and ergotherapists, midwives and psychologists as possible students.
Højgaard estimates that nurses will take up the majority of the 30 seats available in the sexology programme in September, and describes the focus of the study as ‘primarily counselling’.
“Most people experience sexual difficulties at some point, not least due to illness. But so far, trained professionals have been hard to come by for counselling and treatment when sexual problems emerge,” Højgaard told Nordjyske Stifttidende.
