Infamous company still selling lasagne
12. feb. 2013 13.09 EnglishDanish consumers can still buy frozen lasagnes from the infamous French company Comigel in Netto, Føtex and Bilka, chain stores which are part of Danish Supermarket Ltd.
Today, Danish daily Politiken wrote that the chain of Danish groceries have elected to remove only some of the lasagnes produced by Comigel from their stock, even though British food authorities recommended on Friday that UK stores stop selling all meat products from Comigel.
This occurred after illicit horsemeat was found in lasagnes sold by the French company in the UK and Sweden, although Comigel alleged that the frozen lasagnes contained only beef.
The controversy is due in part to the uncertainty of where the meat comes from. Comigel have blamed their supplier Spaghero for the mystery meat, but Spaghero claims that it was duped by its sub-suppliers, supposedly two slaughterhouses in Romania.
Netto still sells the lasagne
Despite the uncertainty concerning Comigel products, Danish Supermarket Ltd. has chosen to remove only those of Comigel’s lasagne products containing meat supplied by Spaghero. Comigel products will still be available in Føtex and Bilka as “Budgetlasagne”, and Netto will occasionally sell Comigel lasagnes on special offer under the brand “Det Hurtige Køkken”.
All three supermarket chains have reassured customers that their frozen lasagnes from Comigel only contain meat supplied by other companies than Spaghero.
