A Royal Family
RoyalsIn this award-winning, six-part series, 30 kings, queens, princes and princesses tell a fantastic story about power, love, tragedy, and honour.
Through the frank interviews given in A Royal Family, viewers are given unique insight into generations of royal family connections that transcend national borders. And in this way, a piece of exciting European history is recounted from a time when royal superpowers controlled Europe through marriage.
At the end of the 1800's the Danish King, Christian IX, managed to marry his 6 children into the dominating European royal families and therefore, became known as 'Europe's father-in-law'. One of his daughters became Queen of England, another the Empress of Russia, whilst two of his sons became Kings of Denmark and Greece, respectively. Today, his lineage is found all over Europe.
Research and footage for this series was gathered from all over Europe over a period of 4 years. The royal descendants also generously contributed with private photographs and film, many of which have never been made public. All interviews have been recorded in English.
