Follow the Leader a.k.a. Young, american and right
SocietyConservative teenagers Ben, D.J. & Nick are high school class presidents who plan to continue leading their peers as real politicians someday. Their divergent paths growing up during turbulent times for America form a sympathetic yet ironic portrait of what "change" means for traditional boys who dream of being world leaders.
Born as Reagan left office and the Berlin Wall fell, the boys grew up believing in an American superiority that was shattered when, at age 12, "9/11 taught us that America was great but not invincible". Picking up their lives as 16-year-olds, the film presents moments in each boy's political development over the next three years. As they finish high school and start college, these young nationalists make different choices that force each of them to reconsider his political beliefs and future career. Filmed during a historic period that culminates in Obama's election, their coming-of-age stories offer a revealing alternative way of thinking about America's future leaders and the legacy of Bush's presidency.
Young, American and Right is a surprising journey that provides unique insights into the present and future of a troubled superpower.
