Niels Bern-Jensen is a successful local politician in a small Danish town and he lives a happy family life with his wife and their daughter. His position in the community gives him access to sensitive information that – in the hands of the right person – could ease a threatening unemployment problem. Niels decides to leak the information, but unfortunately his less conscientious colleague, Peter, finds out about Niels’ secret. And Peter wants to take personal advantage of this knowledge.

Because of Niels’ minor violation the town rapidly becomes an arena of lies, blackmail, death, and homicide. And Niels’ own life turns into a desperate fight – not only for career and reputation, but for his and his family’s survival.

Prix Italia winner, Ole Bornedal, is the highly acclaimed director of the European box-office success Nattevagten.
