Every New Year's Eve, viewers in countries all over the world turn on their TV-sets to watch one of the most repeated TV-programmes of all times – Dinner for One. The celebrated sketch has become a cult phenomenon, and has its own life outside the screen.

Dinner for One was recorded back in 1963 but very few people know the story behind the sketch. This programme goes behind the scenes and looks at why and how Dinner for One has maintained its huge popularity over the years.

Our programme visits people in seven countries  on New Year's Eve to experience firsthand the many rituals and traditions that have become an essential part of many fans' viewing of the sketch. Viewers all over the world have an almost sacred relationship with the Dinner for One.

The program also uncovers the reasons why few in the UK know of the sketch despite the fact that the lead actors are British.
