Lars Hansen's social security number gets mixed up with that of an immigrant named Al Hassan and he's being sent to a Danish language course. The teacher of the course is Ida whom he harassed in school. When he realizes that the participation of El Hassan is crucial for the existence of the course, and therefore Ida's job, he feels guilty and decides to play the role of El Hassan for Ida's sake. He falls in love with her but she doesn't want to know anything of him, because she has fallen into love with El Hassan (Lars in disguise). To be near her he has to keep on playing the role of El Hassan.
